That First Step

Well not really, but it seems like a good first title on a blog.

Hello everyone! My name is Blair, I am 40 and this will be my fitness blog. I have done various attempts at this in a variety of mediums before, but as I have been often derailed I wanted to try yet another medium. Always get back up, never stay down.

Well this blog will be focusing on my fitness only. So let's start with my brief fitness history.

Growing up I was really active. I played organized sports from the time I was 6 right through high school. I was good at things, but never the best. Still I was in good shape, and my biggest problem is I could not put on weight. And I was SUPER skinny. Like see my rib cage skinny. Back then my biggest worry was how to put on weight. I never really got into weights (which would have been the solution) much, but I did try it a couple times. I often fail in the weights world because I go it alone. But that is a me issue.

Fast forward to my mid twenties. I have stopped playing organized sports and finished my job at an amusement park where I would walk a tonne. I got a "real" job, and eventually started eating a lot more regularly. Put on 50 lbs. At first I was really happy. Finally put on some weight. But of course though it plateaued for a bit, I eventually put on 35 more. I got to 225 lbs at my biggest, and since then I have fluctuated between that and 210lbs for the last few years.

I am 6'0 tall so this weight isn't great, but for the most part still not too bad compared to other I know my age. But that is not the measuring stick I want to use. I want to get to a healthy 180lbs.

I took up running a couple years ago and have had varying levels of success with it. The problem is I end up stopping for long periods of time and not filling the gap with anything. Something I have successfully done has reduced my portion size when eating, but still need to work on my protein to veggies/fruit ratio. I do not drink much alcohol or pop. I am TRYING to cut back on my milk (it is my fave drink) due to my age I need a lot less of it. I am trying to be better with food, and I know it is my weakest point, but my habits ARE improving.

But I have been in a good place in the past. 21 days guys. Do something for 2 days and it becomes a habit you don't WANT to break. I have been there...but I fell off then as well. It's a battle. One I am constantly in.

I am a real person struggling with this like a lot of people do. I work a very stressful job that comes home with me more than I want it to. But on here I will talk about my journey. And will accept every comment both good and bad on it.

Current Weight - 215 lbs
Fat % - 30% (anything over 26% is considered obese)
Muscle % - 32% (less than 40 is considered poor)
Water % - 48% (normal 50-65%)

All percentages are not good, with water being the closest to normal. And as much as I am not really happy about these numbers, they are improvements over where I was 1 year ago. I get really down on my self when I am not seeing belly fat disappearing, but having a scale to show me these other numbers does help a lot. It shows that though I am not great, I have improved over the past year. I need to not be so hard on myself. But not too easy either. I am a goal, and I will achieve it.
